July to August is monsoon season in Arizona. This sounds exciting, but it really just means a thunderstorm every day. These storms are no different than your average midwest storm, but the soil does not take to the water and we have no underground sewers, so the roads and washes fill with water. So it can sometimes be exciting. We drove to my parents house to pull a few weeds and then go to the pool, but it was pouring rain.
The wash behind their house filled with water.
Water pouring into the wash from the street.
The yard flooding. Also note the mesquite "bush" they have.
Erika trimmed the bush and surprise! it's actually a tree.
